The Security Suite for WebSTAR 3.0

The Security Suite for WebSTAR 3.0 provides an integrated set of components which greatly enhance the security of your WebSTAR 3.0 server. These products help to address a number of security issues that are specific to WebSTAR 3.0 and the Mac OS:

• WebSTAR's remote administration facility enables anyone who has obtained the Admin password to manipulate the server in any way they desire.
• WebSTAR's built-in FTP application is intrinsically insecure due to FTP's use of clear text (unencrypted) passwords.
• There is no logging facility built into either the Mac OS or WebSTAR which alerts you to security attacks or violations.
• WebSTAR's Web log is too detailed to allow you to understand if your server is being accessed in undesired ways.
• WebSTAR's built-in security does not distinguish between different virtual Web sites established through WebSTAR's "virtual host feature".
• Various third-party components may have been added to your server which compromise its security.

Components of the Security Suite include:

• DoorStop version 1.0. DoorStop is easy-to-use Macintosh-based firewall software. With DoorStop, you can protect the services on your WebSTAR machine from unwanted access. You can also keep a log of all access attempts, helping you to become of aware of potential security attacks and violations
  

• The LogDoor Real-time Server Monitor, version 2.2. The industry-recognized LogDoor product adds real-time, multi-domain logging and monitoring to your WebSTAR server, processing both Web and DoorStop logs. With LogDoor, security issues become immediately apparent, instead of being buried in the depths of giant log files.
  

• ShareWay IP, Personal Edition. ShareWay IP works with the Mac's built-in personal file sharing to provide AppleShare file sharing over IP protocols. With ShareWay IP, not only will maintaining sites on your server be easier, but it will be much more secure as well. ShareWay IP lets site owners use AppleShare instead of FTP, plugging one of the biggest security holes on any server.
  

• Documentation and examples. The Security Suite includes extensive new documentation and sample files, simplifying the process of securing your server.
